Have you heard of the North Coast Food Trial? Celebrating local flavour from Astoria through Pacific City, visitors and vacationers are enjoying the wonderful flavours of the coast.
From the freshest seafood harvested from the Pacific Ocean and Bays, the freshwater streams and lakes, the incredible produce grown in our farming communities, the locally crafted cheeses to the wines from our Oregon Coast wineries and the nearby Willamette Wine Valley.
Follow along, and we'll let you in on some of the top Oregon Coast Restaurants
We we have to admit, these are our favourite restaurants, too!
Astoria Restaurants
Carruthers Restaurant, 4126, 1198 Commercial St,, (503) 975-5305
Carruthers is a welcome addition to the Astoria restaurant scene, brought to you by the talented people of the Astoria Coffeehouse and Bistro. The interiors are art deco, highlighting the vintage 1920s building and features two floor to ceiling fireplaces adding to the inviting atmosphere.
In addition to wonderful craft cocktails, you'll find menu favorites such as yummy starters including Thai brussel sprouts with spiced cashews and candied ginger and entrees such as blackened scallops with green apple and fennel orzo and sweet bacon chutney or braised short ribs with aged white cheddar risotto.
Astoria Coffeehouse and Bistro, 243 11th Street, (503) 325-1787
Home of Astoria's celebrated Chef, we have to admit that, besides their regular wonderful menu, we love their weeknight specials such as Monday Sushi and Martini Nite or Thursday Taco and Margarita Nite.
You'll find other incredible daily specials like Sicilian style oysters on a bed of rice with bok choy and fresh basil pesto or chicken fried chicken smothered in mushrooms chorizo gravy.
Be sure to save room for their wonderful desserts. We recently fell in love with their Kahlúa custard tartlet topped with coffee chocolate meringue.
Seaside Restaurants
Nonni's Italian Bistro, 831 Broadway St., (503) 738-4264
Welcome to our favorite feel comfort food Italian Restaurant, sort of like the Italian family restaurants from your youth, but updated. At Nonni's you'll find many of your favorites. Ours includes the Chicken Picatta served with seasonal sautéed vegetables and fresh pasta alfredo or Oregon Chippino with fresh market seafood such as lams, crab, mussels, salmon and Nonni's catch of the day.
Don't miss their popular Happy Hour, and be prepared to enjoy the complimentary apéritif.
McMenamin's Sandtrap Pub, 1157 N. Marion Ave., Gearhart (503) 717-8159
Okay, so this is officially a Gearhart restaurant, but is sometimes referred to as Seaside.
McMeniamin's Sandtrap Pub is located in McMenamins Gearhart Hotel and serves McMenamins standard faire. Dinner favorites include Higher Pappardelle fresh pasta, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, Oregon hazelnuts and spinach tossed with a White Rabbit Wine-garlic parmesan cream sauce or Whiskey-Brined Pork Loin served with hogshead-habanero sauce, cheddar jalapeno grits and red eye-braised kale.
Cannon Beach Restaurants
Irish Table, 1235 S Hemlock, (503) 436-0708
The Irish Table is know for fusing Pacific Northwest cuisine with classic British Isles favorites. Whatever they're doing, we agree it is delicious! Favorites include Vegetarian Wellington with NW wild mushrooms and yams tucked into delicate pastry topped with truffled herbs or decadent Seared Flat Iron Steak with creamy colcannon potatoes, wild NW mushrooms and Jamaican peppercorn sauce - comfort food at its best.
Castaway's Global Cuisine and Wine Bar, 316 Fir St, (503) 436-4444
Castaway's has grown from the small restaurant hidden in a small beach house to their new larger digs next door. You'll find the menu is influenced by Cajun and Caribbean cuisine, and their expanded bar features wonderful Oregon wines and craft beverages.
Our favorite will always be their Jerk Chicken, but do sample the rest of their offerings such as a Jambalaya brimming with sausage, peppers, chicken and blueberries. Be sure to ask to add the prawns. Or try the Seafood Linguine with Oregon's best seafood.
Manzanita Restaurants
MacGregor's Whiskey Bar, 387 Laneda Ave, (503) 368-2447
At MacGregor's Whiskey Bar you'll find a scrumptious light faire menu to go along with their craft cocktails, extensive Oregon Wine menu, and of course, top whiskeys.
Try the Lobster Bisque or the MacGregor and Cheese - Insiders Tip, add the smoked salmon! Or try one of the "Boards." Our favorite is the Northwest Board with smoked salmon, Cascadia Creamery Sleeping Beauty Cheese and dried local cherries.
And save room for one of McGregor's desserts. You'll love the flourless chocolate cake with fresh NW rasberry sauce served on the side. Or try the Scottish Spotted Dick with Devonshire cream.
Neah-Kah-Nie Bistro, 519 Laneda Ave, (503) 368-2722
Looking for a restaurant in Manzanita to celebrate a special night or just enjoy a good dinner? Neah0-Kah-Nie Bistro is the go to for many visitors. Favorites include the Prawns with Cilantro Lime Chimichurri with goat cheese and chive polenta or Fresh Cod pan seared in Lemon Beurre Blanc with manchego and asparagus risotto. Add your favorite craft cocktail or an Oregon wine or craft beer to your dinner.
Wheeler Restaurants
Rising Star Cafe, 92 Rorvik St, (503) 368-3990
One of the favorite area restaurants, the Rising Star Cafe could be the poster child for the true North Coast Food Trail restaurant. Owner chef Ron and co-owner Pepi are passionate about serving dinners with only the best, freshest ingredients. We're talking right off the boat seafood.
Their regular changing menu includes fan favorite Pacific NW Salmon - many say it's the best they've tasted -- seared with local vegetables, and served over braising greens, mashed potatoes and broken egg sauce with lemon butter. Their Chioppino is served San Francisco style in a huge bowl of tomato and tuna broth with tomatoes, potatoes, sweet pepper aioli and crostini.
You'll want to leave room for Pepi's daily fresh desserts. We have to admit, their key lime tart is our favorite, but their Star Bar with fresh ice cream is a popular hit, too!
Salmonberry Saloon, 380 Marine Dr., (503) 714-1423
Who knew sleepy little Wheeler on the scenic Nehalem Bay would be home to two of the best Oregon Coast restaurants? Besides favorite Rising Star Cafe, the new kid in town is Salmonberry Saloon.
Last year Chef Mike Aldridge, who spent five years cooking in Portland restaurants, joined owners Chantelle Hylton and Patrick Rock at the Salmonberry Saloon last year in the old Tsunami Cafe on the Nehalem Bay in Wheeler. Chef Aldridge enjoys returning to his roots cooking with fire, seared fish, and simple sauces to create wonderful Coastal foods.
Besides the rotating specials, try the North Coast Paella with mussels, chorizo, prawns, clams, rockfish, calamari and bay shrimp or the Wheeler Captain's Platter with pan-seared rockfish, fried oysters, calamari, and shrimp cocktail with house cut fries NW coleslaw.
Rockaway Beach Restaurants
Offshore Grill & Coffeehouse, 122 N Hwy 101, (503) 355-3005
There are changes happening around Rockaway Beach, with the fan favorite Offshore Grill being a great example.
Rockaway Beach locals and regulars love this restaurant, and like Rising Star and Salmonberry, the Offshore Grill exemplifies the farm and shore to table movement of the North Coast Food Trail.
Favorites include Halibut and Orzo Provencal, pan roasted with Orzo, tomatoes, capers, garlic, herbs, spinach & lemon oil finished with balsamic reduction or Nehalem River Ranch Short Ribs glazed in a Korean chili Pacific NW marionberry BBQ sauce, creamy polenta, pickled vegetables and watermelon.
Garibaldi Restaurants
Garibaldi Portside Bistro, 606 Biak Ave, (971) 265-1567
We love that Garibaldi is adding to the more traditional beach diners that have dotted the coast for decades. While Garibaldi Portside Bistro is more casual, they continually improve and update the menu. And they're expanding their restaurant located on the Garibaldi docks.
Yep, their location means the freshest seafood. But there's other yummy offerings on their menu too.
We've enjoyed the Tri Tip Bleu Salad brimming with house smoked tri tip steak, Oregon blue cheese, organic greens, Pacific NW dried cranberries, red onion and fresh sautéed bacon crumbles. Or the comfort food Tuna Melt with house smoked Albacore Tuna, a touch of jalapeño, onion and garlic, swiss cheese, tomato and avocado on sourdough bread.
There are many wonderful North Coast Food Trail Oregon Coast restaurants to choose from.
We'll happily update the list as terrific new eateries join our community, so check back frequently.
