For many, the call of waves against the beach is more than enough reason to pack your gear and head to the coast for some play and relaxation with your family pooch. But it’s nice to know that the Pacific NW, specifically the north Oregon coast, offers pooches and their human family much more than just fun on the beach.
Preparing For Your Pet Friendly Manzanita Vacation
Unless you have your own coast vacation home, the first task at hand is finding pet friendly accommodations. How does one find pet friendly hotels Oregon Coast style?
Besides our own pet friendly beachside Manzanita vacation rentals, you’ll find there are pet friendly Manzanita hotels, pet friendly Manzanita motels, and other vacation rentals in Manzanita and the north coast area that are pet friendly lodging.
When booking your Manzanita vacation rental or other accommodation, the initial task is to double check whether your pet is welcome. Be sure to mention if you’re planning on traveling with more than one pet. You don't want any surprises when you arrive at your Oregon Coast rentals pet friendly selection!

Take advantage of the opportunity to find out what pet friendly amenities your accommodation has.
What pets are accepted? Not all accommodations are cat friendly due to higher allergies.
Is there a fenced in pet area?
What are the requirements for pets left alone – do you need to bring your pet’s crate with you?
Are towels provided for sandy paws? Do you need to supply them?
Are there bowls for pet dinner and drink?
Are bags provided for pet waste?
Try Oregon state park yurts that are pet friendly! Nehalem Bay State Park has both pet friendly yurts and camping spots. Ask about which specific spaces and yurts designated pet friendly, and about pet fees. There is a two pet limit, including both cats and dogs.
While in the park, your pet needs to be physically restrained. This is defined as holding them, holding onto their collar, or have them on a leash no longer than six feet. The exceptions are if your pet is in an off-leash area; inside your vehicle, tent, or pet-friendly yurt; or on the beach. In these cases, they must be under voice control and within sight.
And lastly, before hitting the road with fido, be sure to familiarize yourself with signs and relief for pet car sickness!

You might have noticed the trend where more and more restaurants and business are encouraging well-behaved leashed dogs to accompany their owners. Many businesses and restaurants now allow you to bring your dogs if they have outdoor seating. Be sure to check first – each place will have different policies regarding what is allowed. As mentioned, most if not all of the pet friendly seating would be patio seating.
Another great way to find out about restaurants that allow dogs in the area you're visiting is to check either with the local chamber of commerce or with pet supplies stores. The shops are generally very well informed and happy to give you local information about pet friendly eateries in the area.
Note for traveling during the Coronavirus epidemic. Be sure to check first with businesses regarding hours and restrictions.
In Astoria restaurants Bowepicker Fish & Chips, The Wet Dog Cafe, Astoria Coffee House and Bistro, Fort George Brewing, and Blue Scorcher all encourage well-behaved, leashed dogs on their patios. Some even bring treats and a water bowl! Rogue Brewery has a pet menu. Frite & Scoop, known for house crafted ice creams and Belgian waffles, have differing selections of doggie frozen treats, some made with banana, peanut butter and pumpkin.
Seaside restaurants pet friendly selections include Maggie’s on the Prom, Firehouse Grill, Seaside Brewing Company, U Street Pub & Eatery, U-Street Tavern, Fultano’s Pizza, Dog Water Cafe, and Bell-Buoy located south of Seaside.
There's a large selection of pet friendly Cannon Beach restaurants ranging from Bill’s Tavern and Brewhouse, Lazy Susan Cafe, Lumberyard Rotisserie and Grill, Pizza A’Fetta, Seasons Cafe, Sweet Basil’s Cafe, Grill and Scoop, and Warren House Pub.
Pet friendly Manzanita restaurants and cafes include The Coffee Shop, Left Coast Siesta, Manzanita News and Espresso, the deli at Manzanita Little Apple Grocery, and The Bunkhouse.
In Nehalem, try Wanda’s Cafe or Buttercup, where you’ll find handcrafted doggie treats, and even gluten free doggie treats.
Or mosey down the road and try Rockaway Beach restaurants. The Sand Dollar Restaurant and Old Oregon Smokehouse are both pet friendly.
There are plenty of coastal businesses catering to K9 gear. In fact, there’s enough custom apparel, sports team merchandise, and organic peanut butter treats around to keep even the most discerning pup pleased!

Dog Events to Set Your Tail A Waggin’
The north coast has an abundance of Annual Events benefiting local shelters and animal services, and they’re all bound to please pooches and their families.
Check out the Oregon Coast Pet Events in the following coastal towns:
Astoria: Dog Day Afternoon at the Astoria Sunday Market. Activities include 4-H Classy Canine Agility Course, Fido Games – basic training for pets in the form of fun, and the Walk the Plank fashion show at Pet Works in August.
Cannon Beach: the Surfsand Resort Annual Dog Show in October benefits the Clatsop County Animal Shelter. The fun includes prizes, a raffle, a hot “dog” roast and over 20 canine Show categories including Best Tail Wag and So Ugly You’re Cute.
Manzanita: The Annual Muttzanita celebration is a lot of fun. The event kicks off Friday evening – enjoy Yappy Hour with Oregon wine and local food vendors. But that’s not all! On Saturday, thrill to the Chuckit toss, mutt massages, photo opportunities, and a rousing pet parade.
Learn holistic food options, find opportunities to have your pet micro-chipped, talk with a local Vet, feast at Bones and Brew and more local food vendors, or be a hero – United Paws of Tillamook will be there with K9 companions looking for a forever family. The event benefits the United Paws of Tillamook and the local Emergency Volunteer Corp.
Rockaway Beach: Firecracker Weiner Nationals dachshund and all breed races and fashion show in July is a favorite of many who return yearly for this event – it’s lots of fun. Watch and cheer for your favorite Dachshund as they cross the finish line and take the title Wiener of the Race! You’ll find all breed events too – it’s an inclusive day! Benefits the Tillamook Animal Shelter.
Pacific City: At Yappy Days in June all proceeds go to the Tillamook Animal Shelter. This street fair type day features adorable pets available for adoption, balloon animals, face painting, wonderful food choices, vendors, and tons of fun events. Not to mention live music, a pet wash station and groomer, and a silent auction!
Long Beach, Washington not far from Astoria, you'll find the Doggie Olympic Games June 15–16. You'll find lots of pet fun, including Luciano Pavarotti Commemorative Sing-Off, Peanut Butter Lick, and the Rip Van Winkle Sleep-Off.
